Millions of UK Workers To Quit Their Jobs

  • May 30, 2022

Are you thinking of changing your job over the next year?

If yes, you are not alone in thinking this way.

1 in 5 workers in the UK say they are thinking about finding a new job in the next 12 months.

The biggest reasons for this are:

- Pay (especially in the technology sector, less so in the public sector)

- Job Satisfaction

- Freedom over WFH / hybrid working

Those most likely to leave their jobs were younger, highly skilled workers.

This is already a reality for a lot of people, with a record high of people moving job-to-job as a result of resignations over dismissals. These stats rose by 4.2% but this does not yet match the increase in the cost of living.

And 60% of people asked would like to work either fully from home or mostly from home.

Whereas only 17% of people asked would choose to work fully or mostly in the office.

Workers are able to assert power over bosses as companies right now are struggling to recruit, meaning there is more job security when stating what they want.

There are fears that more workers will ‘think on their feet’ if their expectations are not being met. This is especially likely when highly skilled workers are in such high demand.

Ever since the ‘Great Resignation’ the trend has been very steady, it does not seem to be slowing soon.

This has resulted in there being more job vacancies than unemployed people in the UK since records began between January and March of this year.

In the Office for National Statistics’ newest figures, it has been found that 1 in 7 of UK working adults, or 14%, are working entirely from home.

Then a further 24% were working hybrid.

These findings take into consideration data found in late April to early May.

Though there has been a lot of talk around the topic of whether or not Work From Home ultimately makes people lose their work ethic, we have found that just under 20% of people actually agree with this stance.

Then a huge 83% of people believe that WFH has no signs of workers being less motivated to work.

A lot of people believe that lack of commute, being able to wake later, spend more quality time with their family, and be able to control their own work environment is ultimately better for their work flow
